Amylin, Alkermes Shares Benefit from FDA OK of Novo’s Victoza (BioWorld)

While shares of Novo Nordisk rose 3.3 percent Tuesday on the news that the FDA had approved its once-daily injectable glucagon-like peptide-1 (GLP-1) receptor agonist Victoza (liraglutide) for Type II diabetes, it was competitors Amylin Pharmaceuticals Inc. and Alkermes Inc. whose stock benefitted the most, surging 9 percent and 7.2 percent, respectively.

Hair Loss Products, Minoxidil and FDA Approval

Many hair loss products claim to have FDA approval, but what that usually means is that one of the key ingredients, Minoxidil, has been approved by the FDA for treating hair loss. Minoxidil is highly regarded as an ingredient in hair loss products although was developed originally for treating high blood pressure. Given the reputation of Minoxidil, it is a good indicator for choosing a hair loss product and given that it comes with FDA approval.
